Knighthawks Have Fifth Overall Selection In 2008 Entry Draft

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks have the fifth overall selection in the upcoming 2008 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The Knighthawks will have seven picks in the six-round draft, which will take place in Boston the weekend of Saturday, September 6th to Sunday, September 7th.

The weekend of activities begin on Saturday, September 6th, when the league will hold a daylong combine for the top prospects at TD Banknorth Garden. The players will participate in drills and physical testing, followed by a Combine Game for Top Prospects at 7:00 p.m. The game is free of charge for fans to attend, and no advance tickets are necessary.

The Boston Blazers will host the NLL Draft at Legends Restaurant inside TD Banknorth Garden on Sunday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. The draft is free of charge for fans to attend, although advance tickets will be required. A total of 76 players will be selected in the six-round Entry Draft, which features the best young talent from NCAA lacrosse programs at U.S. colleges and universities as well as Canada's junior lacrosse system.

The Entry Draft & Combine will mark the first major event to be hosted by the Blazers, an expansion team that has joined the league for the 2009 season. The Blazers will begin playing home games at TD Banknorth Garden in January, sharing the arena with the NHL's Boston Bruins and NBA's Boston Celtics. Boston currently holds the first selection in the Entry Draft.

The Knighthawks pick at the No. 5 spot, which is the highest position in the draft for Rochester since the 2005 Draft. That year, Rochester chose forward Shawn Evans with the second overall pick. Last season, the Knighthawks acquired two players in the first round of the NLL Entry Draft. Rochester selected 19-year-old forwards Mat MacLeod and Andrew Potter in 2007.

Rochester enters its 15th season of professional lacrosse in 2009 and takes aim at its 14th playoff appearance. In 2007, the Knighthawks won their second title, capturing the Champion's Cup. Rochester won its first championship in 1997.
