Knighthawks Fans To 'Storm' Buffalo
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The New Jersey Storm indoor lacrosse team can count on some rowdy crowd support from an unlikely source this coming Saturday night when they take on the Buffalo Bandits at the HSBC Arena. The Rochester Knighthawks Krew fan club will be making the 65-mile trek to Buffalo armed with New Jersey Storm t-shirts, ponchos, and Thunder Sticks. Strange, huh? Why would the leather-lunged Knighthawks fans be caught wearing Storm gear in public (especially since New Jersey ruined their home opener with a 13-11 win on December 28th)? Its because the Knighthawks need arch rival Buffalo to lose one more game to have a chance to win the National Lacrosse Leagues Central Division. Funny what happens in April.
Its my pleasure to help out any other NLL team, unless you are playing Rochester, laughed Tim Knab, organizer of the Knighthawks Krew. We realize that the New Jersey Storm ended the last season winning four their last six games and took some playoff contenders with them. We need the same result this year. You wont be able to miss us on Saturday, thats for sure! About 30 rabid Knighthawks Krew members will make the road trip and will change their name to Storm Krew for one day of mayhem.
The New Jersey front office jumped at the chance to outfit the neo-Storm fans when the team was contacted this week by Knab. We think its terrific that the Knighthawks have such passionate fans and we greatly accept their support as honorary Storm fans, said Allyson Rowe, the Storm Marketing and Promotions Manager. I think theyre used to rooting against the Bandits, so this shouldnt be too foreign.
Rochester (11-4) has clinched a spot in this years NLL playoffs. Even with a Buffalo (11-3) loss, the Knighthawks will still have to win their final game against Philadelphia to ensure the divisional title. The Storm (3-10) have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
The Storm will wrap up their home season on Sunday April 13th at 1:00 p.m. at the Continental Airlines Arena versus the Vancouver Ravens. The final home game is STX Fan Appreciation Day and the franchise will also be celebrating the second birthday of the team mascot Thunder. Fans will receive many giveaways and selected attendees will be honored on the field prior to the game.
