
Knighthawks and Bandits Renew Playoff Rivalry

The Rochester Knighthawks and Buffalo Bandits will renew their playoff rivalry Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the First Niagara Center in Game One of the East Division Finals.
In 20 seasons, the Western New York lacrosse powers have played 61 times, including eight times in the postseason. In 2014, the Knighthawks won three of their four meetings against Buffalo. The last time they met, Rochester beat the Bandits 16-14 on April 26 th to tie its franchise record for wins in a season with 14. The teams that know each other so well will get back at it this weekend, and there will be no shortage of electricity.
"It's everything you come to expect. Every game is intensity-filled and hard-hitting. It's even more so when you get into the playoffs," said Knighthawks Head Coach Mike Hasen. "The excitement starts rolling, the adrenaline is pumping and everything gets ramped up even more for games against Buffalo."
The East Division Finals will mark the first postseason matchup between the familiar foes since the 2007 National Lacrosse League Playoffs. In the last encounter, Rochester rallied to defeat Buffalo 14-13 in overtime on April 27, 2007 at The Blue Cross Arena. Rochester advanced to the Championship Game on John Grant's game-winner just 26 seconds into the extra frame. The Knighthawks forced OT by outscoring Buffalo 5-2 in the fourth quarter. Mike Accursi was named the Game MVP with five goals and two assists, while Pat O'Toole made 43 saves. The Knighthawks advanced to the Champion's Cup Finals where they knocked off the Arizona Sting 13-11 to win the franchise's second NLL Championship.
The teams will once again battle in the NLL Playoffs with the winner advancing to the Champion's Cup Finals. The two-game series begins Saturday before shifting to Rochester for GameTwo of the East Division Finals on Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.Rochester owns a 5-3 playoff record against Buffalo.
"You get excited for every game and every game you go into you want to win," said Knighthawks forward Stephen Keogh. "We have to continue to get better, work on stuff this week and get ready for Buffalo."
