February 1, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant will visit two Dick's Sporting Goods locations on Saturday, February 4th. The five-time National Lacrosse League All-Pro will stop by the Mall at Greece Ridge Center store from noon to 1:30 p.m. and then travel to The Marketplace location for a 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. autograph signing.
Grant is tied for second in the league with 32 points (19+13) in five games after recording 11 goals and six assists in two games last weekend. Rochester took over sole possession of first place in the East Division with divisional wins over the Buffalo Bandits and Minnesota Swarm.
On Sunday, Rochester defeated the Swarm, 10-9, at the Xcel Energy Center. Rochester (4-1) won its fourth straight game and fourth in a row against East Division opponents. For the second straight night Grant scored the game-winning goal, as he recorded six goals and two assists. The contest in Minnesota completed a two-game weekend for Rochester, which began with an 11-10 overtime win over the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the Knighthawks' winning streak was in doubt as they fell behind at halftime for the first time this season. Rochester, however, regrouped in the third quarter as Grant began his assault on the Swarm. The Rochester forward tied the game with goals at 6:38, 7:57 and 9:12.
In the fourth quarter, Rochester netted the next two goals as part of a 5-0 run. Mike Accursi scored on the power play at the 30-second mark and Grant struck for his fourth of the night for a 9-7 lead. Brock Boyle scored his second of the game to cut the lead to 9-8. But Grant was not done, as he picked up a loose ball and beat Disher to the near post for a 10-8 advantage. Minnesota cut the lead to 10-9 on Chad Culp's goal at 9:37, while the Swarm was enjoying a three-minute power play.
Rochester has this week off before returning to play two games in two nights from February 10-11. In those two days, the Knighthawks will play the two teams that battled for the 2005 NLL Championship. The K-Hawks travel to play the Toronto Rock on February 10th at the Air Canada Centre at 7:30 p.m. The next night, Rochester returns home to host the Arizona Sting at 7:35 p.m.
