Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- Charlotte (26-34) scored five runs in the first inning and three in the second, before coasting to a 10-5 victory over Louisville (30-30) Thursday night. An announced crowd of 8,918 saw the Knights bat around in the first inning, in which the visitors pounded out four doubles. With the loss, the Bats fell back to .500 for the first time since May 21.

Tom Shearn (2-4, 4.98) picked up the loss in his shortest outing of the season. The Bats' starter went 1.2 innings, allowing nine hits, eight runs, and three walks. Prior to tonight, Shearn had not given up more than four runs in a single outing.

Charlotte RHP Jason Childers (1-0, 2.08) gets credit for the win. Childers came on in the fourth and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two hits and one run. Starting pitcher Shaun Babula did not factor in the decision as he only pitched 3.0 innings.

Second baseman Jeff Keppinger had a hot bat tonight for Louisville, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the third. Mike Edwards also homered for the Bats, his only hit of the night.

Charlotte cranked out 16 hits, including four by center fielder Ryan Sweeney. Chicago White Sox left fielder, Scott Podsednik, went 2-for-4 with a double, as he continues his rehab assignment with the Knights.

The Bats will look to end their three-game slide Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville will hand the ball to RHP Steve Kelly (0-4, 6.30). Vladimir Nunez (1-7, 5.04) is slated to start for the Knights. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
