Last Week's Outing(s):
KiXX 20, ORL 8 (1/12) - The KiXX (7-8) defeated the expansion Orlando Sharks (0-16) by a score of 20-8 in front of 5,629 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. The KiXX improved to 3-0 over the Sharks this season, who are still in search of the club's first win. The night was highlighted by two two-goal performances from Aaron Susi and David Castellanos. Rookie Nigel Marples was credited with the first goal of his career tonight. KiXX keeper Peter Pappas, coming off his fourth career shut out against Baltimore on January 5, held the Sharks to just three goals, stopping 11 of the 14 shots he faced. Former KiXX player Damien Pottinger began scoring on a feed from Sharks leading point-scorer JP Rodrigues just 1:48 into the game. Aaron Susi tied the game at two apiece for the KiXX with 5:01 remaining in the first quarter. Jonathan Steele provided the assist. Steele was drafted by the Orlando Sharks in the 2007 MISL Expansion Draft, but was traded to Philadelphia for Gaston Pernia before the season started. Wendell Regis gave the KiXX the lead with 2:30 remaining in the quarter, and David Castellanos put the KiXX up by four on his first of the year, set up by Susi. Susi buried his fifth point of the night 3:36 into the second quarter, a two-point unassisted goal to put the KiXX up 8-2. Pat Morris gave Philadelphia a 10-2 lead when he headed a pass from Angel Rivillo past Sharks keeper Paul Nagy. Morris' goal would stand as the game winner. Castellanos scored his second of the night 3:29 into the second half, an unassisted goal. Just over a minute later Tony Donatelli took a shot that went off KiXX defender Drew Kopp, giving Kopp his third of the season. Pottinger scored again on a feed from Bill Sedgewick to give Pottinger and the Sharks their second goal of the night. Jonathan Steele got on the board with his second of the season at 9:34 of quarter. KiXX keeper Peter Pappas was credited with the assist, his fourth. Gaston Pernia scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Rodrigues, bringing the score to 16-6. With 2:46 remaining in the quarter, KiXX defender Nigel Marples scored the first goal of his career, unassisted. The Towson University graduate was selected in the first round of the 2007 MISL Amateur Draft by the KiXX this past offseason. KiXX player/coach Don D'Ambra rounded out the scoring with his team-leading ninth of the season, assisted by Ptah Myers. The match marked the return of longtime KiXX standout Shawn Boney, who was held scoreless , registering five shots. Boney was left unprotected by the KiXX during the offseason, and Orlando drafted the 6'8" forward in the 2007 MISL Expansion Draft. Boney has recorded four goals in five games after signing with the team midway through the season. The game was the 300th of Wendell Regis' 11-year career. Ptah Myers assist extended his point streak to four games.
