KiXX Top Polish Club, 20-10

Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia (Thursday, November 19, 2009) - The Philadelphia KiXX looked impressive tonight at Tri-State Sports in Aston, doubling up Pogon Szczecin of the Polish Premier League by a tally of 20-10 in a friendly exhibition. The outdoor Polish club, which was on a tour of the United States after recent completion of its season, underwent a bit of an adjustment to take its game indoors, and the KiXX capitalized.

"Tonight was a really competitive and respectable exhibition," Philadelphia head coach Don D'Ambra said after the match. "They were at a bit of a disadvantage due to a lack of experience playing indoors, but they had big athletic players with strong soccer instincts. That enabled them to create some opportunities for themselves."

While the outcome was favorable to D'Ambra and his club, he had other goals for the night that he was glad to accomplish.

"Tonight, we wanted to stay within our system and focus on playing as a team," he continued. "When you play intersquad scrimmages, it can be tough to reenact the same intensity and feel of a real game. Anytime you get a chance to play a professional opponent in an exhibition like we did tonight, it truly serves as a great tune-up for your next game."

Pogon Szczecin recently earned a promotion to the Polish First League after finishing second in the Western Group of the Polish Second League this past season, and the team has been on a tour of the United States since that time.

"The U.S. is a beautiful country with plenty to see," Pogon Szczecin head coach Piotr Mandrysz said through a translator.

During their time here, the team has also traveled to Boston, Hartford and New York City, with plans to visit Atlantic City over the weekend. The club has truly enjoyed the sights and experiences of the country, and one thing in particular struck Mandrysz.

"In our city, soccer is the only sport that is played," he remarked. "We were able to watch the NBA game between the Celtics and Atlanta last Friday night, and through the KiXX, we watched the NHL game between the Flyers and Devils on Monday. It was a great experience to see two different sports on different nights."

Next up for Philadelphia is a road contest on Saturday against the Baltimore Blast (0-1), and the team will play its historic first game at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University on Saturday, January 9th, hosting the Rockford Rampage at 7:00 p.m. Season and group ticket packages for the KiXX are available now by calling 1-888-888-KiXX.
