Philadelphia, PA, November 19, 2005 - The Philadelphia KiXX (1-1) dropped a 6-3 decision to the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Milwaukee Wave (3-0) in front of 4,210 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. Marcelo Fontana recorded the game-winning goal on a pass from two-time Spalding Scoring Champion Greg Howes at 10:23 of the third quarter. Peter Pappas (1-1) took the loss for Philadelphia, turning away 17 of the 22 shots he faced, while Nick Vorberg improved to 3-0 for Milwaukee with 15 saves on 18 chances.
Milwaukee opened the scoring, 1-0, as Giuliano Oliviero connected on a pass from teammate Todd Dusosky at 3:50 of the first quarter. KiXX defender Drew Kopp knotted the score even, 1-1, finishing a feed from forward John Barry Nusum at 9:44.
Howes regained the one-point Wave advantage, 2-1, as Dusosky recorded his second assist of the evening at 3:29 of the second stanza. In the final minutes of the second quarter (12:12), Angel Rivillo broke loose down the sideline and sent a pass across the middle to a wide-open Hewerton, who easily deposited the ball into the far corner of the net to give Milwaukee a two-goal margin, 3-1.
Fontana connected on the eventual game winner off a centering pass from Howes at 10:23 of the third quarter that lengthened the Wave advantage, 4-1.
Philadelphia native Pat Morris blasted a right-footer from the yellow line past Vorberg to cut the KiXX deficit to two, 4-2, at 3:56 of fourth period. Ptah Myers recorded the assist on the play. Holy Ghost graduate Chris Fehrle followed to pull the club within one, 4-3, connecting on an assist from forward Goran Vasic at 8:16. Milwaukee responded with a pair of unanswered goals to again cushion their lead to three, 6-3. Defender Jonathan Greenfield struck first on an unassisted tally at 11:16, followed by a score from Matt Schmidt at 12:35.
Notes: The first 2,500 fans, under 14, tonight received a Pat Morris Replica T-Shirt, courtesy of JAKO USA. Midfielder David Castellanos made his professional indoor debut. Wave forward Greg Howes recorded his 200th career goal with his second quarter tally.
