
KiXX drop 5-4 decision in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD, March 1, 2005 â The Philadelphia KiXX (17-13) allowed three goals in the final two minutes of action to drop a 5-4 decision to the Baltimore Blast in front of 2,711 fans at the 1st Mariner Arena tonight. With the loss, the KiXX are now 5-2 versus the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champions this season. Blast forward Tarik Walker registered the game-winning goal on an assist from teammate Giuliano Celenza at 14:37 of the fourth period. Peter Pappas (15-11) took the loss in net for Philadelphia with 12 saves on 16 chances, while Brian Rowland improved to 8-6 with the win for the Blast, turning away 10 of the 14 shots he faced.
Baltimore's Carlos Farias gave the Blast an early 1-0 advantage, finishing a feed from teammate Wendell Regis at 2:48 of the opening quarter. Forward Lee Tschantret extended the Blast advantage to two, 2-0, connecting on a power- play goal off a pass from Giuliano Celenza at 11:18; Baltimore received the one-man advantage after Pappas was sent to the penalty box for a two-minute hand ball infraction.
D'Ambra continued his offensive burst with his seventh goal in the club's last three games off a restart pass from forward Goran Vasic that pulled the KiXX within one, 2-1, at 3:47 of the second period. After Blast defender Jeff Hare was sent to the box for a two-minute tirpping penalty, Philadelphia native Pat Morris notched a power-play score from player/assistant coach Kevin Sloan at 7:37 of the stanza that knotted the club's even at 2-2; the tally marked the 100th goal of Morris' six-year career. The KiXX took their first lead of the night, 3-2, as Gloucester Township native Jeff Moore knocked-in a header off a Jeremy Aldrich shot that rebounded high off the glass at 13:38 of the stanza.
After a scoreless third period, KiXX defender Drew Kopp lengthened the club's lead, 4-2, connecting on a rebound from a D'Ambra shot just over two minutes (2:10) into the final stanza of play; the goal marked the 50th career point for the defender from Bridgeport, Connecticut. With Danny Kelly in a sixth attacker, Baltimore pulled back within one, 4-3, as David Bascome found the back of the net on an assist from Tschantret at the 13-minute mark of the period. Just over 30 seconds later (13:37), Celenza knotted the game at 4-4 with a volley from the just inside the yellow line. Tarik Walker capped the Blast comeback, finishing a pass from Celenza to regain the one-point advantage, 5-4, with less than 30 seconds remaining (14:37) on the game clock. Baltimore held on to earn a 5-4 victory.
Notes: Philadelphia native Pat Morris registered the 100th goal of his six- year career with tonight's second-quarter tally; the three-time all-star defender also recorded the 350th block of his career. Defender Drew Kopp's fourth-quarter score marked the 50th point of his career. KiXX player/coach Don D'Ambra's tallied his seventh goal in the club's last three outings; he has now accounted for seven of the team's 17 total goals in that span.
