Tonight's contest is the second of six meetings between the Philadelphia KiXX and the California Cougars and their second for the month of November ... the two clubs kicked-off the 2006-07 season, the second consecutive in which the clubs would meet in Philadelphia's first game, at the Stockton Arena on November 5 ... the hosting Cougars edged the visitors, 13-12, courtesy of a two-point score from Bernie Lilavois with only five seconds remaining ... defender Pat Morris and newcomer Tony Donatelli paced the KiXX, each registering five points ... Philadelphia claimed the season-series last year, four games to two, two-to-one on both their home turf and on the road ... the Cougars are once again led by Head Coach Troy Dayak, who appeared for the United States at the U-16, U-20, and U-23 levels while earning 11 caps for the senior national team ... Dayak also competed for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS) for eight seasons.
Getting to Know One Another: The KiXX should get to know both the expansion Detroit Ignition and the California Cougars fairly well in the early stages of the 2006-07 season ... the club kicked-off their 2006-07 schedule with a 13-12 loss in California on November 5 and will square-off versus the Cougars on two more occasions within the first 30 days of the season ... the two teams will also meet on November 26 at the Stockton Arena and December 2 in the City of Brotherly Love ... Philadelphia opened the home portion of their schedule with a 10-8 overtime defeat to the Ignition on November 11, but earned a 12-10 overtime win in the rematch at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on November 19 ... all said, the KiXX battle either the California Cougars (three times) or the Detroit Ignition (two occasions) in their first five outings of the 2006-07 campaign.
Instant Success: KiXX newcomer Tony Donatelli made his professional indoor debut in the club's 13-12 loss at the California Cougars on November 5 ... the Temple University product made the most of the moment, notching five points on a pair of goals ... Donatelli, a native of Glenside, PA, struck first with a two-point goal off an assist from player/coach Don D'Ambra and then followed with a three-point bomb on a dish from all-star defender Pat Morris ... both scores occurred in the game's second quarter of action ... the first-year midfielder followed with a two-point score versus the expansion Detroit Ignition in the club's home opener on November 11 and then added the game winner at 8:56 of overtime in the team's 12-10 victory in Detroit on November 19 ... with his nine points this season, Donatelli is atop the club's leaderboard and tied eighth among scorers in the MISL ... fellow newcomer Jason Hotchkin also made his professional indoor debut on November 5 and recorded an assist in the contest, his first professional point.
KiXX/Season Debuts: Midfielder Sandre Naumoski made his season and Philadelphia KiXX debut in the team's 12-10 overtime victory in Detroit on November 19 ... the club acquired the rights to the native of Skopje, Macedonia with their second-round selection in the 2006 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Dispersal Draft ... the team's first-round choice (third overall), three-time MISL Defender of the Year Genoni Martinez, is expected make his season debut in the club's contest versus the California Cougars at the Stockton Arena on Sunday, November 26 ... two-time League MVP Dino Delevski, who made nine appearances with Philadelphia last season and agreed to terms for the 2006-07 campaign on October 10, is expected to debut versus the Cougars at the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, December 2 ... four-year veteran defender Casey Barton is also a new face with Philadelphia this season after the club acquired his playing rights in the 2005 MISL Dispersal Draft ... after taking a one-year hiatus from the indoor game, the native of Wichita, KS signed a one-year agreement plus an option and made his KiXX debut in California on November 5.
Multi-Point Goals Return: The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced on July 25, 2006 that the MISL Management Committee has approved the use of a multi-point scoring system, effective for the 2006-07 season ... all goals scored will now be worth two points apiece, except those goals scored on shot attempts from on or beyond the 45-foot arc surrounding the goal, which will be worth three points ... with the change, there will no longer be one-point scoring ... for much of the history of this League and until as recently as three seasons ago, a multi-point scoring system was a feature of North America's top professional indoor soccer league ... the single-point scoring system was in effect for the past three seasons, having been approved by the MISL Management Committee in May 2003.
