
Kings Re-Sign Four Players for 2006

CINCINNATI (January 10, 2006) - The Cincinnati Kings have announced four re-signings to the 2006 roster. Derek Smith, Jeff Hughes, Kevin McCloskey, and Jack Cummings will be suiting up for the Kings again in 2006.
"These are four important guys to get back as we move forward in 2006," said Kings Head Coach Jon Pickup. "They are talented players that will serve as the backbone of our team."
Open tryouts for the Kings will be held on February 3, 2006 at the Wall 2 Wall Soccer Complex in Mason. Tryout times are 9-3 p.m. both days, with a lunch break served at 12 p.m. All tryout participants are required to pay a $75 registration fee. Tryout applications are available on the Kings website, www.cincinnatikings.com.
Smith was named to the USL Second Division First Team after anchoring the Kings backline in 2005. The defender started 19 matches for the Kings totaling one goal and one assist. Smith was among the USL Second Division league leaders in minutes played (1,794, third) and fouls (34, eighth). After the Kings season, Smith signed with the Columbus Crew of the MLS and played with Crew Reserve.
Hughes returns to the Kings after playing in every match in 2005. Playing midfielder and forward last year, the Cincinnati native tallied two goals and two assists in 1,420 minutes.
A native of Belfast, McCloskey keyed the Kings midfield last year with his physical play and league-leading 57 fouls. McCloskey started in all 17 matches he played in, logging 1,527 minutes and scoring one goal.
Cummings, also from Cincinnati, scored two goals and had three assists last year while playing both midfielder and forward. Cummings was named to the USL Second Division Second Team last year and ranked second in the league with 51 shots.
The Cincinnati Kings will begin their 2006 season in the USL Second Division at the Charlotte Eagles on April 21. The Kings play their first home match May 5 against the Western Mass Pioneers. All homes games will be played at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
