Kings Lose Family Member, Promote Fund to Aid Family

LUBBOCK, TX: June 26, 2006 - The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) would like to announce that Alliance Federal Credit Union has set up a memorial fund to aid the family of Doug Anderson, who served as the Cotton Kings Accountant and Merchandise Director. Anderson suffered a heart attack and lost his life Saturday morning at the age of 51.

Anderson, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, had been with the Cotton Kings organization over the past four seasons and was a familiar face with a familiar smile to fans, and a valuable asset to the organization. He was recently recognized by the CHL as the CHL Employee of the Month for January for his dedication and work talents. Anderson was a retired servant of the United States Government, spending over 20 years in the United States Air Force.

Family values were something Doug not only shared with the organization, but also to the public. He completed his staff profile on the Cotton Kings website revealing his love for his family. Doug listed spending time with family as a favorite pastime and wishes he could have spent more time with his sons when they were younger. The profile reveals the true character and love he shared for his family he now leaves behind. His loving family includes his wife Tammy and sons Travis (21) and Trevor (17).

Contributions made to the memorial fund can be made at any of the five Lubbock area Alliance Federal Credit Union locations. Contributors are to place deposits in their name to the account 258674. Contributions may also be mailed in by sending donations to Alliance Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 64970, Lubbock, Tx 79464, with "Attn: Douglas Anderson Memorial Fund" listed on the envelope. More information in regards to donating to the fund can be made by contacting Alliance at 806-798-4615.

Memorial services are open to the public and will be conducted Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Viewing is scheduled for 3 PM and Memorial Services will begin at 4 PM. Anderson will be laid to rest Friday at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in Fort Leavenworth County, Kansas.

The Cotton Kings are currently preparing for their eighth season of professional hockey in the South Plains. The Central Hockey League has not released the schedule for the 06/07 season, but the 64-game schedule will be announced soon. The home opener is set for Saturday, October 21st against an opponent to be named later.
