Kingfish Victorious over Sea Wolves, 3-1

BILOXI, Miss. – The Baton Rouge Kingfish halted a franchise record 11-game winless streak by skating away with a 3-1 win over Mississippi. The Sea Wolves continue to lead the battle against the Kingfish for the Coca-Cola Cup, 6 points to 2.

Kingfish (4-12-3) forward Sam Paquet beat Sean Matile on a rebound infront at 13:44. Paquet's 4th goal of the year, made it 1-0 for Baton Rouge through 20 minutes.

The Sea Wolves (11-7-2) responded at 14:17 of the second. Dwayne Blais poked in his own rebound at the side of goaltender Jeff Blair, tying the score 1-1. The goal for Blais, was his 3rd of the campaign.

Baton Rouge regained the lead on the power play. Mike Kiesman let go with a shot from the slot, tallying his first of the year, and giving Baton Rouge a 2-1 lead.

The Kingfish added insurance in the third, on another man advantage. Trevor Demmans pointshot was re-directed by Jason Norrie. Norrie's 3rd goal rounded out the scoring.

Matile stopped 25 of 28 shots, only to drop his record to 1-2-0. Blair made 33 saves, on the 34 shots, improving to 2-7-3.

Mississippi went 0 for 6 on the power play. Baton Rouge converted on 2 of 9 power play opportunities.

Notes: Defenseman Jim Baxter had his 12-game point streak (4 goals-12 assists) snapped. Forward Cody Bowtell saw his 8-game point streak (4 goals-7 assists) halted. Captain Steffon Walby was also held off the scoresheet, ending his 6-game scoring streak (5 goals, 7 assists) and stopping his 4-game goal streak (4 goals).

The Sea Wolves travel to Jackson for a 7:05 p.m. start on Tuesday.

Mississippi's next home game is Thursday, November 28 for a 7:05 p.m. contest against Baton Rouge on Thanksgiving at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It is Game 5 in the battle for the Coca-Cola Cup.
