Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - Fresh off of the All-Star break, the Kingfish came out to Simmons Field tonight and gave a top-notch performance. They beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters by a count of 2-0, extending their winning streak to four.
It was a pitcher's duel from the get-go between starters Rico Garcia and Domenic Mazza. Garcia, the recently anointed NWL All-Star, was stellar as he dealt six shutout innings while striking out five. Reliever Justin Peters followed suit and struck out two of the three batters faced in the seventh. Closer Paul Schuster was on his game as well snatching a six-out save, his sixth of the season.
The Kingfish offense on the other hand refused to be held down, breaking through in the fifth. With two outs, catcher CJ Saylor and shortstop Zack Kolakowski hit back-to-back singles to reach first and second. Taylor Douglas then lined one to left center, plating Saylor with a RBI single. Chris Godinez kept the party going, notching an infield single to push Kolakowski across and bring things to 2-0. The hit extended Godinez's hitting streak to eight and improved his average to a league-high .455 in the past 30 days.
The victory lifts King Elvis' crew into a second place tie in the South Division with the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the second half. Kenosha has eyes on another win tomorrow evening as they attempt to take the season series from the Rafters 5-1.
When the Kingfish complete the two game series tomorrow night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at 7:05 p.m., the game will feature a performance by the ZOOperstars. The Kingfish return to Simmons Field on Monday, July 28 th for a series against the La Crosse Loggers.
