
King wins Defensive Player of the Week

Portland LumberJax goaltender Matt King was named the Week 11 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 12-11 road win over the Colorado Mammoth on Sunday. King stopped 54 of 65 shots while leading the LumberJax to victory. King also picked up a loose ball. He did not play in Portland's 12-10 win over the Arizona Sting on Saturday.
This is the second full game the Victoria, BC native has played in for the LumberJax, and he has already collected 84 saves on 109 attempts. This puts the goaltender's save percentage at 78.9% for the season. This is King's fifth season in the National Lacrosse League; he played for Anaheim last year and Calgary the previous years. When he is not playing lacrosse he is a teacher in Victoria.
The LumberJax are at home against Minnesota tomorrow, March 17 at 7:30p. The game will be broadcast live on CNW TV14 and tape delayed on KCMD 970AM (after the Winter Hawks game). The Portland LumberJax (www.PortlandJax.com) were founded on May 11, 2005 as an expansion franchise in the National Lacrosse League, which features the best lacrosse players in the world. LumberJax are owned by the youngest majority owner in professional sports, 25-year-old Angela Batinovich, who relocated permanently to Portland, OR from California. The LumberJax are one of 11 teams in the NLL and will play eight of the sixteen regular season games at the Rose Garden, which is owned by Portland Arena Management LLC.
