GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday that he has signed former National Hockey League player Garrett Burnett, as well as goaltender Cole Murray, to the Sting's Practice Roster. The Sting also announced the release of defenseman Jon Niziol.

Burnett played 39 games for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 2003-04, registering 1G-2A-3P-184PIM. He began the 2005-06 hockey season with the NHL's Dallas Stars prior to playing 10 games for the American Hockey League's Iowa Stars and 29 for the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners. A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Burnett was at one time a teammate of Sting Captain Peter Lough on the Burnaby Lakers of the BCJLA. The 6'3" 236-lb. defender also played box lacrosse at the senior level for the Western Lacrosse Association's Coquitlam Adanacs in 1998.

In 1999-2000, as a member of the AHL's Kentucky Thoroughblades, Burnett spent 506 minutes in the penalty box in only 58 games played. Only Dennis Bonvie has had more PIMs (522 in 73 GP for the Hamilton Bulldogs in 1996-97) in a single season in the history of the AHL.

Cole Murray was on Arizona's Practice Roster last season. He played last summer alongside Sting defender Scott Self on the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Peterborough Lakers where he registered a G.A.A. of 9.03 while backing up NLL All-Star Pat O'Toole.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Currently in their third season of existence, the Sting are the defending NLL West Division Champions. For more information, please call (480) 563-7825 or visit ArizonaSting.com.
