Key players re-sign with Mammoth

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth re-signed three key players on Friday, agreeing to contracts with goaltender Chris Levis and defensemen John Gallant and Matt Leveque. The team also signed dispersal draftee Jed Prossner.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Gallant signed a three-year contract. The Brantford, Ontario, native has been with the Mammoth since the team began playing in Denver. He played in 63 consecutive regular season games before missing the final game of the 2006 season, but returned from injury to appear in the title game and win the 2006 NLL championship. He played in 11 games last season and picked up 79 loose balls.

"John has been Mr. Consistency for us," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He works hard and is a guy that you can expect to give his all every game."

Levis agreed to a one-year deal after posting a career-best 10.5 goals against average last season. One of the best No. 2 goalies in the league, Levis collected a 3-4 record in 2007 with a .780 save percentage.

Leveque, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound native of Surrey, British Columbia, signed a two-year deal. He scored his first career goal in his NLL debut for the Mammoth on Jan. 14, 2006, and played in 12 games last season, setting career highs with three points and 35 loose balls.

Prossner, the 35th selection in the 2007 dispersal draft, signed a one-year contract. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward, native of Easton, Md., was taken by Boston in the expansion draft after scoring six goals in nine games in 2006 with the Portland LumberJax. Prossner played collegiately at North Carolina., where he was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy, the pre-eminent award honoring the top male player in the United States.
