Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers announced today that OS Kevin Prentiss is returning to the team that he helped lead to a ArenaCup Championship last season. The Xplorers activated Prentiss today from the Other League Exempt List and he is expected to be in the lineup this Saturday. The fourth year Prentiss returns as the career franchise leader in scoring, receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, kickoff return yardage and kickoff return touchdowns.
"He is undoubtedly the most exciting player to put on a uniform in af2," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "We are excited to have him back to help us win another championship."
Following last season, Prentiss was signed by Las Vegas for the 2006 AFL season. He made the team out of training camp and played in the first two games; catching three passes for 40 yards and one touchdown. He was placed on recallable waivers by the Gladiators on February 9.
"It took him some time to work out some off-field issues to allow him to come back," Barto said. "I think he will help return some of the swagger that we may have lost the last couple of weeks."
Last season, the former Mississippi State Bulldog had a career season that saw him set several single season franchise records and, as a result, was named to National Conference All-af2 second team. He had a career high matching and franchise-high matching 103 receptions. He also set career and franchise highs with 1627 receiving yards, 40 touchdown receptions and 264 points. His 40 touchdown receptions were fourth in the league, his 1627 receiving yards were fifth and his 264 points were fourth.
Also in 2004, he led the league with a 26.3 average on 54 kickoff returns. He took four of those returns back for scores to up his career total to an af2 record 13 kickoff return touchdowns. His 3104 all-purpose yards were second in the league. His best game of season came in Week Two when he tied the af2 record with 48 points and 8 touchdowns versus Amarillo.
In his three seasons with the Xplorers, the Vicksburg, MS native has 255 receptions for 3957 yards and 93 touchdowns. Add in his return touchdowns and Prentiss has found the end zone 107 times in the Xplorers' green and black.
