Kelowna Falcons News Release
In a Wednesday matinee in Klamath Falls the Falcons won their third series of the season after a 4-2 victory over the Gems.
The game featured two great starting pitching performances as neither offense was able to score until the sixth inning. Falcons' starter Josh Nuernberg threw seven shutout innings on route to his second win of the summer. He gave up a pair of hits and struck out four.
In that sixth inning the Falcons got back to back two-out singles by Scotland Church and Brandon Grimsley to break the scoreless tie.
Then in the seventh the Falcon scored what would turn out to be the winning runs. Kevin Biro led of the inning with a single, then was moved to second on Jerod Smith's single. Biro then moved to third on a balk, and scored on Erik Colombini's sacrifice fly. That would prove to be the winning run. Smith then scored on a Ryan Degner single.
All 11 of the Falcons hits on Wednesday were singles. Grimsley, Smith and Degner each had a pair of hits. With his two singles, Grimsley raises his average to team leading .345. He and Church have a team high 13 RBIs.
The Falcons(10-23) stay on the road and will play the Medford (Oregon) Rogue (18-15) for the first time in franchise history on Thursday as the two teams open a three game series. Aaron Mason (0-0) will get the ball for the Falcons, while the Rogue will counter with All-Star selection David Peterson (4-0).
