Kentucky Bluegrass Stallions at Rochester RazorSharks Game Notes

March 25, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

This is the final regular season Premier Basketball League game for both. Rochester advances into the playoffs. Kentucky completes its first PBL season.

The RazorSharks (11-8) can clinch third place with a win over the Stallions. That would put them up against the Quebec Kebs in the best of three PBL semifinals. Rochester clinched a playoff berth Tuesday at Dayton.

This is the last of five meetings between the teams. After losing at Kentucky back in January, the Sharks have beaten the Stallions three straight times. The two games in Rochester were decided by four and five points.

After a 2-6 start to the season, Rochester has nine wins in its last eleven games. The Sharks are 7-2 at home with both losses coming in overtime.

Keith Friel is the leading three-point shooter in the league. He has 51 and is shooting at a league leading 45% from long range. Center Jared Carter continues to lead the PBL in blocked shots with 33 in 19 games.

The Sharks will try to get up on the Stallions early. Kentucky has been outscored by 86 points in the first quarter, 31 in the second and 11 in the third. The Stallions have won the fourth quarter of their games by 13 points.

The last time they met in Rochester, that trend played out. The Sharks grabbed an early 25 point lead and won by 5.

The Bluegrass Stallions (6-13) snapped a five game losing streak with a 101-95 win over the Saint John Mill Rats Sunday in their home finale. That victory helped Rochester move into position to secure the third playoff spot.

Forward Kenny Jones is Kentucky's best player. He leads the Stallions in points and rebounds. His 19.47 points per game ranks fourth in the PBL. Jones has 94 in the four games against the RazorSharks, a 23.5 ppg average. He scored 31 in Rochester's win at Georgetown March 13. Jones is tied for fifth in rebounds and second in field goal percentage.

Of note: Rochester native and former lead singer with the rock groups Foreigner and Black Sheep, Lou Gramm will perform the National Anthem. This is Fan and Sponsor Appreciation Day. The Sharks will hold a pregame reception in the Blue Cross Arena atrium at 11:30am.

Of note: The RazorSharks are expected to open the playoffs with a home game next Saturday against a first round opponent to be determined. If Rochester beats Kentucky, that opponent is Quebec.

Quotable: Rochester coach Rod Baker to his troops, "Don't under estimate the meaning of this game. If we win, nothing anybody else does matters."
