Kelowna Falcons Drop Tight Game

July 27, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

Bellingham, WA: The Kelowna Falcons took another step backwards on Thursday night falling to the Bellingham Bells 2-1 with their ace on the mound.

Falcons' starter Brandon Marris tasted defeat for the first time this year despite giving up just two runs and four hits. Marris (7-1) was vying for his league leading eighth win of the year, which would have set a new West Coast League record.

The Falcons would strike first in game two in Bellingham, after Andrew Firth was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning.

The lead would not last long, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Bells first baseman Grant Fink hit a solo homerun on the first pitch he saw to tie the game at one. It was Fink's third homer of the year and second against the Falcons.

The Bells would deliver the knock-out blow in the sixth inning when Nate Causey would score off a sac fly.

The Falcons offense was quiet scattering seven hits. Both Firth and Kyle Moses had two hits each.

The loss puts the Falcons now three games back of Bellingham for the final playoff spot in the East and four games back of first place Wenatchee. The Falcons (24-19) and Bells (26-15) will play game three of four on Friday night in Bellingham. The club will open its final regular season home stand on Sunday when the Applesox visit Elks Stadium. Sunday's game time is 6:05pm.
