Old Orchard Beach News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA- After a successful first season at the helm, Jamie Keefe has decided to pursue other challenges in the sport. Keefe informed team officials late last week that he would be stepping away from the team at the end of the month. Keefe guided the Suns to a record of 27-25 in their inaugural season in Pittsfield. Keefe will continue his recent venture into the collegiate sports arena, accepting a position as a coach for the UMASS Lowell baseball team.
Jamie was the first piece of the puzzle for the Goldklang Group after they acquired the Pittsfield franchise. Having managed in Pittsfield with previous teams, Keefe was a leading force in helping the Suns establish a home in Pittsfield and the greater Berkshire County. Suns Assistant General Manager, Kevin McGuire, said "Having Jamie here in year one was imperative to our success both on and off the field. He brought instant credibility on the baseball side having been involved in professional baseball for over 20 years. On the business side, he was able to reach out to previous sponsors and supporters that may not have been as easily accessible otherwise."
Moving forward, the Suns plan several personnel announcements in the coming days, and have already started the process of forming the 2013 roster. Suns owner Jeff Goldklang said "I can't say enough great things about Jamie's work over the past year. He's a true professional, and it's bittersweet for the franchise. You never want to lose a great baseball man, but his work has left us on very solid footing."
Keefe said of his time in Pittsfield "I have been blessed to spend the past year working for and learning from the Goldklang Group. The 2012 season was a huge success on and off the field and I am thankful I was able to be a part of it. The Suns will have many years of success with the great staff they have in place now." Keefe went on to say "To the city of Pittsfield, our partners, and its baseball fans I am forever grateful for your support over the past three seasons. Thank you all very much."
Season tickets for the 2013 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Suns office at (413) 445-SUNS. The Suns offices will remain open through the winter at Wahconah Park.
