Katy Copperheads Move Playoff Game

July 4, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Texas Copperheads News Release

Katy, Texas - July 4, 2006 - The Katy Copperheads regrettably announce today that they will move their home playoff game to Beaumont at Ford Arena. The Pacific South Division Champions were slated to originally host the game on July 10, 2006 at the Merrell Center.

The July 10, 2006 date was to be the Copperheads version of "Monday Night Football" at the Leonard Merrell Center. However, issues with the venue made it difficult for the Copperheads to have a home playoff date. The Merrell Center has booked every weekend date in July and slow ticket sales for the Monday game prompted this decision.

Copperheads Head Coach Bryan Blake said, "I hate that we are not going to be able to host our first playoff game. The KISD & Merrell Center have been great to work with this entire season, but the playoffs are a totally different issue. The bottom line is that League officials felt the Monday game scenario would not work financially in my favor."

Despite the playoff venue change, the Copperheads plan on being in Katy, and calling the Merrell Center home next season. "We have one of, if not the best facility in the league. I have no intentions on moving this team." Owner / Head Coach Bryan Blake said.

The Copperheads appreciate the support of the Katy community and its fans during the 2006 inaugural season. In appreciation, all Copperhead fans that attend the Saturday July 8 game will receive free tickets at Ford Arena in Beaumont.
