Nashville Kats News Release
NASHVILLE (Nov. 11, 2004) â The Nashville Kats have finalized a deal with 104.5 The Zone, Nashville's sports and talk station, to serve as the radio home of the team. The Kats will air all of their regular season games on the station, with the exception of the February 19 game against the New York Dragons. That contest will air on 103.3 WKDF â the radio home of the Tennessee Titans.
"We are very excited to be airing our games on 104.5 The Zone," said Bob Flynn, the Kats' general manager. "The Zone is a great station that has shown a true commitment to sports fans in Middle Tennessee by giving them the programming that they want most. This is a great fit for the Nashville Kats and for arena football fans in this area."
In addition to airing Kats games, The Zone is also the radio home of the Vanderbilt Commodores. The station also features Nashville's top-rated sports talk show in "The Sports Zone," with hosts George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland.
"The Kats are a perfect addition to 104.5 The Zone because we've built a station that is the voice of sports and talk in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky," said Steve Dickert, Vice President of Citadel Broadcasting. "We have loved our association with Mr. Adams and his staff. With the addition of a superstar like Tim McGraw, the Kats are going to have a great product."
Three-time Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year Mike Keith, who also serves as the play-by-play voice of the Tennessee Titans, will handle the play-by-play on Kats broadcasts. Larry Stone, who serves as executive producer for the Titans Radio Network, will handle color commentary.
"As we hear from Titans fans every year, the hardest day of the year comes when the Titans season ends" said Stone. "Working with Pat Sperduto, Bob Flynn and the rest of the Kats organization will give Mike, Brad Willis and our team a chance to do what we love: be around football."
The Nashville Kats begin play in the Arena Football League's Central Division on January 28, in the season opener at Columbus. The expansion franchise, which is owned by Tennessee Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr., and boasts country music superstar Tim McGraw as a minority partner, will keep the name and identity of the previous Nashville Kats arena football franchise, which played in the AFL from 1997-2001. Tickets are available by phone at 615-565-4700, or through Katsonline.com.
