Nashville Kats News Release
NASHVILLE (Jan. 6, 2005) â The Nashville Kats have made their first roster move of the 2005 training camp, acquiring wide receiver/defensive back Fabian Davis from the Orlando Predators in exchange for future considerations, Kats head coach Pat Sperduto announced on Tuesday.
Davis (5'11, 180) spent the 2003 season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad. He had recently signed with Orlando as a free agent. A second-team All-ACC selection in 2002 as a kick returner at Wake Forest, Davis earned the Deacons' Outstanding Offensive Back Award after shattering a school-record with 1,747 all-purpose yards. He was the only person in the nation during 2002 to total more than 300 yards in all four all-purpose categories (rushing, receiving, punt returns, and kick returns). An accomplished performer in track as well, Davis finished fourth in the 2002 ACC Championships in the triple jump and was fourth in the conference in the high jump.
The trade brings the number of players on the Kats' active roster to 37 â the maximum number the team can carry during training camp. Each AFL team must trim its roster down to 24 players by January 22, prior to the start of the regular season. The Kats, who began training camp this week, will hold their first full intrasquad scrimmage at the Gaylord Entertainment Center on Sat., January 8. The scrimmage will be held in conjuction with the Kats' Open House at the GEC on that day from 1-5 p.m.
The Nashville Kats begin play in the Arena Football League's Central Division on January 28 with a game at Columbus. The expansion franchise, which is owned by Tennessee Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr., and boasts country music superstar Tim McGraw as a minority partner, will keep the name and identity of the previous Nashville Kats arena football franchise, which played in the AFL from 1997-2001. Tickets are available by phone at 615-565-4700, or through Katsonline.com.
