Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (Mar. 23, 2005) – The Nashville Kats have released defensive specialist Angel Estrada and fullback/linebacker Casey Urlacher in the latest round of roster moves for the team. In addition, the Kats have signed veteran lineman Tyronn Johnson to the practice squad. They also activated quarterback Leon Murray from injured reserve, while moving quarterback Bill Whittemore to the practice squad and placing lineman Wes Stephens on injured reserve.

This latest round of roster moves, which leaves the Kats with 22 players on the active roster (two shy of the maximum number allowed), comes just one day after Nashville acquired veteran FB/LB Rupert Grant in a trade from Orlando in exchange for future considerations.

The Kats parted ways with Estrada (6-2, 215), a rookie who had 10 tackles and an interception in two games played, and Urlacher (6-0, 240), who had two carries for 10 yards in two appearances this season. Estrada was waived from the team's practice squad, while Urlacher was released after spending the last two weeks on the active roster.

Nashville signed Johnson (6-1, 285) to the practice squad after bringing him in on a two-day waiver earlier in the week. The Florida A&M product played last season with the Columbus Destroyers, registering 7.5 stops, a sack and a forced fumble as a rookie. He joins Whittemore (6-0, 205), who was active in the Kats' last game against Colorado, on the team's four-man practice squad. Whittemore returns to the practice squad with the activation of starting quarterback Murray (6-3, 212). Murray has not played since week 4 at New York. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on March 8, and is expected to start this week.

Wes Stephens (6-4, 265) goes to injured reserve after injuring his shoulder in practice this week. He will miss at least the next two weeks. Stephens has notched 10.5 tackles in action so far this season.

The Kats (1-6) play host to the Arizona Rattlers (1-7) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Tickets are available at the GEC box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
