Kats' Ahmad Hawkins Named ADT Defensive Player of the Week
March 27, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Nashville Kats News Release
NASHVILLE- Fifth-year Defensive Back Ahmad Hawkins has been named ADT Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 for his three-interception performance against the Austin Wranglers. The honor was the first time in 2007 that a player from the Kats has received the award. This is Hawkins' third defensive honor in his career (AFL Defensive Player of the Week, Quarterfinals, 2004; AFL Defensive Player of the Week, Week 10, 2005).
Against the Austin Wranglers Saturday, Hawkins tied a franchise-record when he recorded three interceptions with one being returned for a 48-yard touchdown en route to edging the Wranglers 70-63 in Austin. After scoring on their first drive of the game, Austin's Lang Campbell was subsequently intercepted by Hawkins on back-to-back Austin possessions. Hawkins' final interception occurred in the third quarter on Nashville's six-yard line as Austin was attempting to take the lead.
Hawkins, who was signed by the Kats before Week 2, provided instant stability and playmaking ability to a Kats defensive backfield that was plagued by injuries and youth. Through three games, Hawkins has accumulated a team-high four interceptions, is fourth on the squad with 9.5 total tackles and has two pass breakups.
