
Kathy McConnell-Miller Named to University of Pittsburgh Coaching Staff

Tulsa, Okla. - The Tulsa Shock announce that Assistant Coach/Director of Basketball Operations Kathy McConnell-Miller will be leaving the Shock to become the Associate Head Coach for women's basketball at the University of Pittsburgh. McConnell-Miller, a Pittsburgh native, will be joining her sister, Susie McConnell-Serio who was named head coach at Pittsburgh last month.
"I want to thank President Steve Swetoha, Coach Gary Kloppenburg and our ownership group for giving me the opportunity to be a apart of such a wonderful organization," Kathy McConnell-Miller said. "The Tulsa Shock and the WNBA has allowed me to work in an amazing city, within an outstanding organization and with the best players in the world. I have been blessed to be a part of the growth of our organization and team over the past three seasons. Thank you to everyone at the Tulsa Shock organization for welcoming me and my family and making this our home."
"This is a bittersweet day for me on many levels," Shock President Steve Swetoha said "Being a Pittsburgh native I know that going home and the opportunity to coach with her sister is a once in a life-time opportunity for Kathy and we're very supportive of her decision. The University of Pittsburgh is not only getting a great basketball coach, they are also getting a solid person who is loyal, committed and passionate about her job."
"Kathy will be greatly missed by all in the Tulsa Shock family," Head Coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "She has been instrumental in helping us get the franchise headed in the right direction both on and off the court. More importantly though, through the tough times and the good, she has been a true and loyal friend to me. I speak for our coaching staff in wishing her the best in her new coaching endeavor at the University of Pittsburgh."
McConnell-Miller will be with the team through Monday's game against Washington on May 27.
