Washington Kastles News Release
Martina Hingis and the New York Buzz (0-5) are coming to town, as the Washington Kastles (5-1) look for their sixth straight win tonight at Kastles Stadium.
Not only will Washington try to extend their winning streak following an undefeated, three-game road trip, they'll attempt to continue their dominance over the Buzz. The Kastles beat New York 20-12 on the road Friday evening, just two nights after cruising past them 25-15 in Washington.
Many eyes of the enthusiastic crowd at Kastles Stadium will be on Hingis, the 14-time Grand Slam champion who is returning to full-time tennis action this season for the first time since retiring in 2007. Hingis lost to Venus Williams in women's singles in Washington, but Monday will be a rematch of Friday's encounter with the Kastles' Angela Haynes. Haynes lost 5-0 to Hingis then, and will be seeking to avenge that defeat tonight.
On the men's side, Bobby Reynolds will try to continue his torrid streak of not losing a match this year when he likely squares off against the Buzz's 6-foot-7, big-serving Alex Domijan. Reynolds has beaten Domijan twice in the past week and there is some chance that the Buzz will start Scoville Jenkins in his place. Reynolds was even more dominant on Friday night in men's doubles when he paired with Leander Paes as the duo swept Domijan and Jenkins 5-0. Paes has been masterful all season demonstrating the touch and shotmaking, particularly at the net, that have made him one of the best doubles players in the world for a long time.
The Washington faithful will get another taste of Hingis in women's doubles, as she is expected to team with Sarah Borwell to face Haynes and Rennae Stubbs. The Kastles won that battle Friday night 5-3 as Haynes bounced back from her singles loss and was brilliant in doubles play with Stubbs. In mixed doubles, the experienced Stubbs and Paes will likely face Hingis and Jenkins who they defeated 5-2.
It's going to be another great night in Washington as the Kastles hope to continue rolling toward back-to-back WTT Championships!

Serena Williams Sidelined for WTT Matches
The Washington Kastles have announced that Serena Williams will be unable to play this season for the team, including in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, July 14, due to a foot injury suffered last week.
According to a statement released by World TeamTennis, a foot injury will keep Serena Williams from joining her team the Kastles and playing her scheduled World TeamTennis matches. Williams cut her foot earlier this week and was not able to play her first WTT match against the New York Buzz in Glens Falls, N.Y., on Friday, July 9. Williams was also scheduled to play for the Kastles in Philadelphia (July 13), Washington, D.C. (July 14) and New York (July 15).
"I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to play in the WTT matches this season," said Williams. "It is always such a fun experience and I love interacting with the fans in the cities that I don't often have the opportunity to play in during the rest of the year."
"We are very sorry that our Kastles teammate Serena Williams has an injury and won't be able to play this season. She has been an important part of our team, both on and off the court, and we wish her well for a speedy recovery," said owner Mark Ein. "Our team is filled with talent and experience as exhibited by our strong start and five and one record, and each member of the squad remains committed to keeping the WTT crown in Washington, D.C. The crowds at Kastles Stadium have been full, loud and passionate this season and we know we can rely on that kind of home court advantage for our last five home matches."
The Kastles currently sit in a tie for the Eastern Conference lead at 5-1 and will face the Western Conference-leading Kansas City Explorers on Wednesday. In a show of appreciation for fans, the Kastles have also announced that every fan in attendance at Wednesday's match will have the choice to receive one of the following:
- A free dinner (hot dog OR chicken tenders) and beverage (soft drink OR water OR beer).
- A 50% discount on purchases up to $100 in the merchandise tent.
- $20 off a ticket for a future match in the 2010 season OR a free grandstand seat for the Sunday, July 18 match against the Boston Lobsters (while supplies last).

July 9, 2010 - Washington Kastles 20, New York Buzz 12
On Friday night, the Kastles traveled to face Martina Hingis and the New York Buzz in the second of three 2010 meetings. With Serena Williams on the sidelines with a foot injury, the rest of the team all did their part in a very convincing victory on the road. The league's top draft choice Bobby Reynolds got things started for the Kastles once again, battling back from one game down to win four straight before ending the singles set with a 5-2 victory in a set in which he had three breaks of big Alex Domijan's serve. Doubles specialists Leander Paes and Rennae Stubbs also got into the act, bringing home victories in all three of their doubles events. And Angie Haynes came back from a tough singles loss to Hingis to provide the spark in womens doubles that enabled the Kastles to close out the match and bring the Kastles record to 4-1.

July 10, 2010 - Washington Kastles 23, St. Louis Aces 16
Bobby Reynolds continued to be an effective catalyst for the Kastles, and once again got the team off to a fast start, this time in men's doubles partnering with Leander Paes in the opening set. The duo won a pair of crucial points to break the Aces serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead, then cruised to a 5-3 win. In the night's marquee match-up, Kastles' Venus Williams was edged by the Aces' Lindsay Davenport 5-3, but that turned out to be Washington's only lost set of the night. Reynolds got the team back on track in the third set, bringing home his sixth consecutive win in men's singles 5-2 over Andre Pavel. Williams then got her revenge in the women's and mixed doubles events, pairing with Rennae Stubbs and Paes (respectively) for a 5-3 victory in each. The win raised the Kastles record to 5-1 on the season, which is where they stand entering tonight's home contest with the Buzz.
