Kalamazoo Scores Early and Often to Dispose of Visiting Eagles

Kalamazoo, MI- Kalamazoo was able to score 2:18 into the game and did not give up the lead the rest of the way. Christian George scored twice, as did Davis DeKorte, leading the Jr. K-Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Soo Eagles.

The Jr. K-Wings lit the lamp early when Christian George (2 nd ) to a quick wrist shot that found the back of the net only 2:18 into the game. George lowed his shoulder and made room for himself and released the shot that beat former Jr. K-Wing Zach Nagelvoort.

Less than five minutes later, Taylor Burden (7 th ) added to the Kalamazoo lead with a power play goal that pushed the score to 2-0. Burden flipped a backhand into the top corner as he, like George, powered his way towards the net.

The Soo Eagles were brought back in the game when defenseman Kyle Froese (3 rd ) stickhandled his way to the front of the net and slotted on home to cut the Kalamazoo lead to 2-1.

Later in the period, Robbie Payne was awarded a penalty shot when a Eagles' player covered the puck in the crease. Payne, however, was unable to score and the period ended with the Jr. K-Wings in front by one goal.

The second period started just like the first when George (3 rd ) scored his second of the game when he tipped home a shot from Brennan Sanford. George scored the goal after getting his skates taken out as he laid on the ice.

Minutes later, Davis DeKorte scored his first goal of the season when he slotted home a rebound on another Kalamazoo power play. Patrick Spellacy took a shot that hit off a Eagle player and landed right on DeKorte's stick who made no mistake.

It did not take long for the Eagles to answer back yet again, this time Chris Waterstreet (5 th ) crashed the net hard, found a loose puck and buried it the top corner to bring the score to 4-2, Jr. K-Wings leading heading into the final period.

The third period was much less eventful than Saturday's game, but far more fulfilling for Kalamazoo. DeKorte (2 nd ) scored his second goal of the game and season when he snapped a wrister past Nagelvoort to push the lead to 5-2.

Scoring two minutes into the game, Kalamazoo never gave up the lead and outscored the visiting Soo Eagles by the final of 5-2. Chrisitan George and Davis DeKorte added two goals each in the victory.

The Jr. K-Wings will now head out on a ten game road trip and return to Wings West on Sunday, January 13 th taking on the Michigan Warriors.
