Kalamazoo Loses Defensive Battle to Ironmen
February 2, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Jamestown, NY- Alex Brooks scored his first goal as a Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wing, but it wouldn't be enough to topple a three-goal first period from the Jamestown Ironmen, as the Jr. K-Wings dropped their contest by a final score of 3-2.
The Ironmen got the scoring underway early in the first, as they found the back of the net just one minute and twenty nine seconds after the opening draw.
A minute and a half later, Jacob McDowell poured in the equalizer, his tenth of the season at the 2:54 mark. McDowell is the fifth Jr. K-Wing with 10+ goals on the season (Payne, Graves, Gattelaro, Flood).
The tie score lasted until midway in the first, when Jamestown re-gained a one-goal lead off Steve Frangione's first of the season.
With only 51 seconds remaining in the first, and working with a power play, the Ironmen lit the lamp again on Bryan Watt's seventh of the season.
After surrendering three goals on fourteen shots, Ken MacLean was pulled in favor of Alex Okicki.
After having more control of the game during the second period, Kalamazoo struck halfway through the frame. Brooks scored his fourth of the season at the 9:52 mark. It was the first goal for Brooks in a Kalamazoo uniform.
A scoreless third period saw Jamestown escape with a one-goal victory. MacLean (12-6-1) took the loss in the game. The two teams faceoff two more times over the next two nights. Both contests are at 7 p.m.
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Sunday, February 11th against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.
