Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Jamestown, NY- It took nine rounds of shootout action to decide a winner, as Elliot Tisdale was able to score in the second half of that round to lead the Jamestown Ironmen to a 3-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings on Friday night at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
The Ironmen, who were tied for the North Division lead entering the game, were able to jump out to an early advantage. Nico Sierra sprung Jamestown a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds into the contest, when he beat Kalamazoo goalie, Alex Okicki with a wrister. The early tally would be the only goal of the first period.
In similar fashion to the first, Jamestown was able to light the lamp within the first minute of period number two as well. This time it was Tyler Dunagan who was able to extend the Ironmen lead to two. Dunagan jammed home a rebound for his 12th goal of the season, enough for second on the team.
With under four minutes to play in the second period and trailing by two goals, the Jr. K-Wings were finally able to find the score sheet. While working with a two-on-one into the Jamestown end, Taylor Burden sent a pass across the ice to Danny Hamburg, who was able to finish the puck into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.
With under a minute to play, the Jr. K-Wings would draw even with a late tally. Patrick Spellacy was able to slap home a loose puck in front of the goal for his sixth goal of the season. it locked the score at two apiece and sent the game into the decisive third period with a tie score.
Neither team was able to score on their respective scoring chances, so the 2-2 tie was taken to an overtime session.
No winner was dubbed during the extra session, which lead to a shootout. Nine rounds later, Tisdale beat Okicki, and gave the Ironmen the extra point.
The one point by Kalamazoo brings them to within a point of the North Division lead, with a chance to overtake Jamestown in their next contest.
