
Kalamazoo hangs on to beat PrarireThunder

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Kalamazoo scored two second period goals and held on to defeat the Bloomington PrairieThunder, 3-1, before 3,443 people Sunday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in International Hockey League action.
The loss dropped the PrairieThunder's record to 28-37-2-5 (63 points), while Kalamazoo improved to 42-29-2-0 (86 points). Bloomington returns to action Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. game at Fort Wayne.
Dominic Osman opened the scoring for Kalamazoo 58 seconds into the second period off assists by Lucas Drake and Rick Cleaver on the power play. The Wings' second goal came six minutes later by Anthony Battaglia with assists by Casey Handrahan and Glenn Detulleo.
Jason Lepine's power play goal 4:51 into the third period off assists by Jan Jas and Jon Booras cut the deficit in half. Blair Manning then scored the final goal with 10:56 remaining off assists by Trent Daavettila and Blair Stayzer.
Jason Wolfe took the loss in net for Bloomington, while Joel Martin earned the win. Wolfe stopped 22 of 25 shots, while Martin pushed aside 35 of 36 shots.
The PrairieThunder had eight rookies and four veterans in its lineup because of injuries.
