Just another position for Berg - from Gridiron to Radio Booth

San Diego Riptide News Release
In the second quarter of the San Diego RiptideÂ’s 28-21 come-from-behind victory over the Peoria Pirates, Brian Berg suffered a torn PCL in his right knee that will sideline the RiptideÂ’s all-purpose player for 2-4 weeks.
Berg has played nearly every position on the Arena field this season and will now tackle a new one -- color commentator for this SaturdayÂ’s Riptide game against the Fresno Frenzy. He has started at center, defensive line, fullback, tight end, linebacker and was the teamÂ’s backup kicker and even played a little wide receiver.
“I think it’s going to fun,” said Berg, who after his injury was a guest on the Riptide’s radio broadcast in the third quarter last week. “That’s what arenafootball2’s all about – opportunity, and this is just another opportunity for me.”
Berg will join Chris Ello, who will be doing his third Riptide-Frenzy game of the year with his third different color commentator. In the RiptideÂ’s first win in team history on April 11, Ello was with Riptide Managing Operator/C.O.O Gil Saidy. Then in the disappointing 49-37 loss on May 18, he was with Bill Werndl.
In the Riptide’s first game on April 6 vs. Bakersfield, Berg scored the first points in team history and later in the game recorded the team’s first sack. He has scored five overall TDs – 3 rushing, 1 receiving and 1 on a muffed kick. Defensively, he has 32.5 tackles, which was fourth on the team and also has 3.0 sacks.
The Riptide and Frenzy split their previous two contest and the winner of this one will not only have bragging rights for winning the season series, but will have the upper hand in the race for the playoffs.
If the Riptide win vs. Fresno and win one more additional game or if Fresno losses vs. San Diego and losses other game, the Riptide will qualify for the playoffs.
Kickoff is slated for 7:00pm (PDT) and tickets can be purchased at any TicketMaster location, the Sports Arena box office or by calling 866-RIPTIDE toll free.
