Rochester Brigade News Release

(Rochester, NY)-Rochester Brigade head coach and general manager Mark Saunders announced that he has been assigned WR/DB Robert Reed by the arenafootball2 league office.

"He's (Robert Reed) a guy looking for the opportunity to play and showcase his abilities," stated Saunders. "He thought Rochester was a good place, and we can use a player of his caliber in the lineup. We're happy to have him."

Reed, 6-1, 205, finished his collegiate career at Lambuth University in 1998, where he was a first team All-Mid South Conference receiver and kick returner. His senior season, he set an NAIA and Lambuth record, averaging 37.7 yards per-kickoff and returning two kickoffs for touchdowns. Reed registered 13 punt returns for 67 yards and tallied 35 receptions for 809 yards and 11 touchdowns to lead the squad in receiving. Reed began his collegiate career as a quarterback at Arkansas in 1994, completing 18 of 38 pass attempts for 295 yards and two touchdowns. He carried the ball 36 times for 120 yards and scored two touchdowns. Reed transferred to the University of Mississippi in 1996, and was granted medical red-shirt after suffering an elbow injury. In 1997, he moved to wide receiver and caught 22 passes for 347 yards and one touchdown for Ole Miss, before transferring to Lambuth for the 1998 season.

In 1999, Reed signed with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent. Reed was the team's only wide receiver to catch multiple touchdowns during the pre-season, where he caught four balls for 61-yards and two scores. He was activated from the practice in December and appeared in three games for the Chargers. In those three games he returned three punts for 49 yards, an average of 16.3 yards per punt return, to lead the team. Reed also racked up five kick returns for 72-yards, two solo tackles and one forced fumble. He attended the Chargers' training camp in 2000, but was later signed by the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL and placed on the team's practice squad for the 2001 season. Reed was also part of the Oklahoma Wranglers' AFL training camp in 2001.

The Brigade hosts their final home game of the regular season this Saturday, June 29, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. The season series is currently tied at a game apiece. In the scenario that these teams finish the regular season in a tie, the outcome of this game will declare the winner. To reserve your tickets, call the main office at 585-292-1530 or checkout the team's website at www.rochesterbrigade.com.
