HERNANDO, MS --- A very exciting and competitive Junior StreetKings youth roller hockey spring league concludes tomorrow (Saturday). The league will be conducting its playoffs and championships at the covered roller hockey rink at the Hernando Civic Center in Hernando. All six teams that make up the Squirt and Bantam divisions will be in action. The first game starts at 9 am.
The squirts, children aged four to 10, will start the day in the 9 am semifinal match-up between the Pirates and Blues. The winner of that game will play the Avalanche in the squirt finals at 11am. In regular season play, the Avalanche and Blues tied with identical 7-3 records. The Avalanche received a bye into the finals by virtue of winning the tiebreaker.
In the bantam division, for children ages 11 to 16, the FireAntz and Panthers play in the semifinals at 10am with the winner battling the Sabres in the title game at noon. The Sabres earned the top seed with an impressive 9-1 record during the regular season.
An awards ceremony will follow the championship games. The public is welcome to attend the games. Admission is free.
The Junior StreetKings will also be hosting two summer camps at the rink in Hernando. The first camp from July 24-28 will be a "learn to skate" camp. This camp will be for beginners where they will learn to skate and also the basic fundamentals of hockey.
The second camp will run from July 30 to August 3 and will be for kids that know how to skate. They will work on the more advanced aspects of hockey.
RiverKings players will help with the instruction during the camps.
A fall league is also scheduled for August.
