Junior Rangers Return
September 16, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette- The Marquette Rangers are again teaming with Cheryl Jackson of Re/Max First Realty to give area youth hockey players a chance to learn from, and hang-out with their favorite North American Hockey League team. The Junior Rangers offers area boys and girls monthly skating sessions with Rangers team members, including age-appropriate training as well as fun competitions and a chance to spend time with the Rangers players.
"Last year was such a blast for the kids that we really wanted to make this happen again," said Rangers spokesman Mark Evans. "We had approached Cheryl Jackson last season about a sponsorship; and her suggestion was to do something with area kids to get them interested, and keep them interested in playing hockey. It's only through her support that we can offer this opportunity to area youth again this season."
There is a change however from last year, as the ages for the kids who are eligible has gone down.
"We had great turnouts early and late in the season last year, but struggled to get a lot of kids to the skates in the middle due to travel hockey schedules for the older kids," Evans said. "This year, we're looking at having just the Mites be involved as they don't really travel and will be available more often throughout the season. Our goal is to have a full turnout each time so it's more fun for the boys and girls who get involved. We realize there may be some disappointed kids from last season, but to guarantee the success of the program this is the direction we had to go."
Space for the Junior Rangers is limited, and available on a first come/first serve basis. Interested parents of Mite players must fill-out and sign a waiver/permission form in the Rangers office at Lakeview Arena weekdays from 8:00AM - 4:00PM. In addition to the time with the team, select Junior Rangers will be introduced at each Rangers home game this season.
