Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Game Recap- Friday, November 9th @ Johnstown Tomahawks. 4-3 Loss.
Johnstown, PA- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings got the first goal of the season from Brett Beauvais, and Mikhail Bushinski tallied his first as a Jr. K-Wing, but it wasn't enough as the Johnstown Tomahawks were able to hold on for a 4-3 victory on Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial.
Early in the first period, it would be the Jr. K-Wings who were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Luc Boby drove the goal and put a shot on Johnstown goalie, Collin Brennan, which was initially saved, but promptly driven home by Robbie Payne, who was credited with his 12th goal of the season.
About four minutes later, Jaycob McCombs would tie the game for the Tomahawks. McCombs handled the puck from a sharp angle along the right wing, and was able to stuff it past Kalamazoo starting goalie, Marcus Due-Boje for his second goal of the season.
With under three minutes remaining in the first period, and the Tomahawks working on a power play, Connor Wright deflected a blue line shot while standing in front of the goal, which made its way past Due-Boje to give Johnstown a 2-1 lead.
Four and a half minutes into the middle frame and already leading by a goal, Brandon Reinholz would bury his eighth of the season after picking the top corner with a wrist shot off a big rebound, giving his team a two-goal advantage.
One second after the half-way point of the second period, Kalamazoo drew to within a goal when Bushinski parked in the slot and hammered home a one-timer for his first goal of the season.
Moments later, the Tomahawks would take their two goal lead right back. With their fourth power play opportunity of the game, Casey Nelson was able to capitalize with a long wrist shot from between the circles. The goal was the fifth of the season for Nelson, and the third power play goal of the game for Johnstown.
With only seventeen seconds remaining in period number two, Kalamazoo's Beauvais got a drop pass along the left wing side, and ripped a slap shot into the top corner to bring the game to within one, heading into the third period.
With no scoring in the third period, the Tomahawks would escape with a one goal victory on their home ice. The Tomahawks finished the game going 3/5 on the power play, and 3/3 on the penalty kill for an astounding night on special teams.

Saturday, November 10th @Johnstown Tomahawks.
Johnstown, PA - Kalamazoo dearly missed their leading scorer, Luc Boby, as they fall to the Johnstown Tomahawks by a score of 4-1. Kalamazoo was unable to score any of their first six power plays, which proved to be too much to overcome.
The first and only goal of a first period dominated by penalties came with both sides at full strength. Jake Fairchild put home his first goal of the season for the Tomahawks at the 11:09 mark.
Most of the second period was dominated by Kalamazoo. They outshot Johnstown 10-5, but that all changed at 19:09 when Andrew McDonald (3rd) fired a shot right past Kalamazoo goalie Alex Okicki. This goal gave Johnstown a 2-0 lead after forty minutes of hockey.
It didn't take long for the Tomahawks to extend their lead. Just forty nine seconds into the third period, Mitch Kontny (9th) scored on the power play and gave the Tomahawks a 3-0 lead.
Chris Truehl lost the Johnstown shutout with 10:11 remaining in the third period. Danny Hamburg (7th) drove home the perfect pass from Robbie Payne. This was Payne's 22nd point of the year, which ties him with Boby for the team lead.
The Tomahawks were able to ice the game at the 17:28 mark when Zach Wallace (2nd) was able to take advantage of a power play and give this team the 4-1 advantage. This would end up being the final goal of the game and completed the weekend sweep of the Jr. K-Wings by the Tomahawks.
