Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Game Recap- Saturday, November 3rd Vs. Port Huron Fighting Falcons. 4-3 SO Win.
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings needed extra time, but they were able to prevail in a shootout and win by a score of 4-3 over the Port Huron Fighting Falcons on Saturday night at Wings Stadium
The Jr. K-Wings were able to get the always pivotal first goal of the game off the stick of leading scorer, Luc Boby. Boby, who was able to tack on to his team lead in goals, lit the lamp for the 12th time of the season by forcing a turnover and beating Alex Blankenburg on a breakaway.
Just under three minutes later, the Falcons were able to roar back with a goal of their own. Brandon Yim (3rd) followed up a shot by Rick DeRosa, and was able to jam home the rebound for the game-tying goal.
Kalamazoo took their lead right back, just one minute and twenty-six seconds later. Josh Dangel walked the goal line and lifted a backhander over the shoulder of Blankenberg for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Each team was able to tally a goal during the middle frame, as the Jr. K-Wings were the ones who struck first. Taylor Burden (5th) skated around the Fighting Falcons defense and pulled the puck to his backhand and floated a shot over the glove of Blankenburg.
Just 35 seconds later, the Fighting Falcons brought the game back to within a goal. It was Zach Badalementi who scored a nifty goal of his own, as he went to the backhand as well to beat Kalamazoo goalie, Marcus Due-Boje, who made his second start for the Jr. K-Wings.
12:46 into the third period the Falcons were able to tie the game at three apiece. Tom Kempinski scored the tying goal as he dove through the crease and put home the puck on his stomach. The goal proved to be the last of regulation and the two teams went to overtime
The overtime offered no help in providing a winner as it remained deadlocked at 3-3. The shootout, however, proved to be just what the Jr. K-Wings needed as they outscored Port Huron 3-0 and Kyle Gattelaro scored the game winner. Marcus Due-Boje stopped all Fighting Falcon shots in the shootout, picking up his second win of the season.

Sunday, November 4th Vs Port Huron Fighting Falcons. 6-3 Win.
Kalamazoo, MI- the Port Huron Fighting Falcons' Brett D'Andrea, notched a hat trick, but it wasn't enough, as Matt Wurst led the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings to a 6-3 victory on Sunday at the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West.
Scoring the first goal of the game for the second consecutive night was the Jr. K-Wings, as Danny Hamburg created a breakaway and lit the lamp for the sixth time of the season, giving Kalamazoo an early lead. Assisting on the goal was Brendan Vetter, registering his first point as a Jr. K-Wing.
The one goal lead would hold for fourteen minutes, until it was D'Andrea scored and tied the game up with fifteen seconds remaining in the first period. D'Andrea parked himself in front of Kalamazoo goalie, Alex Okicki and hammered home his third of the season to send the game into the locker room tied after twenty minutes.
It was all Kalamazoo in the second period, as they were able to tally their second of the game at the 7:24 mark of the period while working with a power play. Luc Boby was on the receiving end of a Robbie Payne pass, and shot home his team-leading 13th of the season. The goal also extended Boby's active point streak to five games.
Adding to the Kalamazoo lead was Trevor Boyd who split the Port Huron defense and sliced his way towards Fighting Falcons goalie, Max Milosek. Boyd took the puck to his backhand, and beat Milosek for his third marker of the campaign.
The third period was full of scoring, as D'Andrea was able to score his second of the game, just 3:59 into the third period. The goal, his fourth of the season, brought Port Huron to within a goal.
Just over two minutes later, Kalamazoo would tally another goal of their own, as Wurst (2nd) let a slap shot go from the point that beat Milosek, and would be the eventual game winner.
Adding to the Kalamazoo lead later in the period was Brendan Vetter, who ripped a one-timer while on the power play that beat Milosek for the first goal of Vetter's career. It gave the Jr. K-Wings a three-goal lead with under ifve minutes to play.
However, it would be D'Andrea for the third time on the day who did his best to bring his team back into contention. He lit the lamp with a wrister, his fourth goal of the season.
But the Jr. K-Wings explosive offense couldn't be silenced, as Patrick Spellacy capped the game off with a goal of his own off a rebound with less than two minutes remaining. The goal for Spellacy was his third of the young season.
