Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

Springfield, Illinois - The Springfield Jr. Blues took to the ice for the first time in A LONG TIME this past weekend as we hosted our friends the Peoria Mustangs for a pair of preseason contests at The Nelson Center. Springfield won 6-1 on Friday night and 9-0 on Saturday night.

Friday night was a much closer contest than what the score turned out to be. Heading into the 2nd intermission the Mustangs held a narrow 1-0 advantage before the Jr. Blues turned the heat up and scored six unanswered in the 3rd period. Goals were scored by Leo Bacallao, Connor Smith (x2), Michael Valdez, Joey Dosan, and Carson Jones. Ethan Robertson was in net and picked up the win allowing just the one goal to Peoria's Perry Lagatuz.

Saturday night, however, was all Jr. Blues as they scored twice in the 1st, three times in the 2nd, and four times in the 3rd. Goals were scored by C. Smith, Zach Bade, Jones (x2), Noah Holt, Tristan Shewchuk, Carter Cloutier, Mason Hoehn, and Bacallao. Ethan Roberts and Matthew Smith split time in the net, pitching a combined shutout to close out the weekend.

We saw a lot of support this weekend from both our fans and those who made the trip down from Peoria and we want to thank everyone who came out this weekend! We can not wait to see everyone again on October 1st at 7:05 pm against the Magicians, our first regular season home game since February 23, 2020!

But first, we travel up to Janesville this Friday to kick off the 2021-22 North American Hockey League (NAHL) regular season against the Jets! Both games this weekend will be broadcast on HockeyTV and we will be sending our broadcast team to call the action so make sure to select the 'Away Feed'!
