
Jr. Blues Sweep the Brown Bears

The Jr. Blues swept the Kenai River Brown Bears over the weekend with a 2-1 shootout win Friday night and a 4-1 win Saturday night.
Friday night, the Jr. Blues got the lead first when Luke Radetic scored off an assist form Jeff Skinner to give the Jr. Blues a 1-0 lead at the 18:39 mark of the first period. Both teams were held scoreless in the second period. In the third, the Brown Bears scored to tie it up at 1-1 and force and overtime. After both teams were held scoreless in overtime the game headed to a shootout where Joey Lupo and Anthony Scarsella both scored and Niko Della Maggiore had two saves to give the Jr. Blues the 2-1 win.
Della Maggiore had 31 saves in the win.
Saturday night, both teams were held scoreless in the first period, but the Jr. Blues got things going in the second with a Matt Long goal off assists from Joey Lupo and Nate Viberg to get the 1-0 lead.Less than two minutes later, Brennan Blaszczak found the back of the net off assists from Brady Tomlak and Erich Fear to push the lead to 2-0. Kenai River scored to cut the lead to 2-1, but then the Jr. Blues scored two goals in less than 30 seconds to push the lead to 4-1. The first was a Trevor Stone goal off assists from Petr Kuznetsov and Kennan Sabatini. The second was a Nate Viberg goal off assists from Joey Lupo and Matt Long. Neither team scored in the third period and 4-1 was the final.
Tommy Nappier had 26 saves in the win.
