
Jr. Barons continue winning ways

(Parma, Ohio)- The Cleveland Jr. Barons of the North American Hockey League, improved their record to 5-0-2 (12 pts., 1st place, North Division) with a shootout loss, 2-1 on Saturday and a 4-2 victory over the USA National Development Program under 17 team.
On Saturday, September 24th, the Barons and Team USA treated the fans to a goalie duel between Cleveland's Kenny Reiter (Pittsburgh, PA) and USA Brad Phillips. The teams were scoreless until Barons forward Carter Camper ( Rocky River, OH) scored his 4th goal of the year with5:05 left in the third period. Ryan Ward (Saline, MI) and Josh Leonard (Allen Park, MI) picking up the assists. Team USA answered back with 2:37 remaining when Colby Cohen scored to tie the score at one. After a scoreless five minute overtime, the teams went to a shoot out that went 13 rounds, when Richard Manley scored and Chase Porter (Franklin, TN) of the Barons missed giving Team USA the extra point with a 2-1 win. Barons goalie Kenny Reiter had 24 saves in the game.
On Sunday, September 25th, the two squads picked up where they left off with a tight checking game. Team USA jumped out to a 1-0 lead, when former Baron John Albert scored his first goal of the year. Team USA would hold that 1-0 lead until the third period, when the Barons came roaring back with four straight goals. Forward Ryan Ward scored his 4th goal of the year with Josh Leonard picking up the lone assist making the score 1-1. Barons forward Brett Kendra (Darien, IL) scored his first junior A goal with Nick Kosinski (Marquette, MI) and Bill Hemann (Westlake,OH) getting the assists making the score 2-1 in favor of the home team. The Barons would make it 3-1, when Barons defenseman Trent Bonnett (Butler, PA) scored his first junior A goal with Nick Kosinski and Chris Reed (Solon, OH) with the assists. Cleveland would go up 4-1, when Brett Jendra scored his second goal of the night with Bill Hemann picking up the lone assist. Team USA would score in the last minute of the game as C.J. Severyn scored making the final 4-2. Barons goalie Kenny Reiter had 25 saves in the victory.
The Barons continue their series with USA National Development program this week as they travel to Ann Arbor, MI to face the Under-18 squad on Tuesday night 7PM. The same two teams will play back at the Lakefront Lines Arena in Parma on Saturday October 1st, 7:30 PM and Sunday afternoon at 3:30PM.
