Josh Gardner was named USL Player of the Week after scoring two goals against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Sunday, and dishing out an assist against Rochester on Wednesday, the United Soccer Leagues announced today.

The selection was Gardner's first of the season for team of the week honors.

"I'm hoping that the reason Josh was selected to the team of the week was not just the two goals he had against Atlanta, but rather because of the steady, consistent, attack minded play he's shown since the preseason," Coach Schmetzer said.

Both of Gardner's goals on Sunday were unassisted, scramble type plays. The first goal he tapped in off his own rebounded shot and he headed the second in off a rebound from a Sebastien Le Toux effort.

In his second year with the Sounders after three years with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Gardner has already equaled his point total from the 2007 USL regular season, with five.

Next up for the Sounders is a trip to Vancouver, Friday, to take on the Whitecaps. The match is at 8:00 pm and can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel.
