Jose Melendez Named New General Manager of Yuma Scorpions

Yuma, AZ - The Yuma Scorpions today announced that Jose Melendez has been named as the new General Manager of the minor league baseball team in the North American League.

"We feel very fortunate to be able to hire a General Manager as accomplished as Jose Melendez," said Yuma Scorpions owner and Diamond Sports & Entertainment President Brian MacInnes. "Jose's results in Laredo have been amazing and are a testament to his abilities. We are looking forward to his leadership to revitalize the Scorpions on the field and at the gate."

Melendez comes to the Yuma Scorpions after having served the last 6 seasons as President and General Manager of the Laredo Broncos on the United League. During that time he was named Executive of the Year by the League three times. In addition he received the City of Laredo Young Businessman of the Year Award in 2007 and twice received Laredo Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month awards. Prior to his time in Laredo he spent three years in the front office of the Seattle Mariner's AA affiliate in San Antonio and a year with the Philadelphia Phillies Player Development organization. He also holds an M.B.A. and a Bachelor in Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

"I am thrilled to be selected for this position with the Yuma Scorpions," said Melendez. "The Ray Kroc Complex is first class, this city has a wonderful baseball history, and the North American League is the most exciting minor league to be a member of. I'm looking forward to getting very involved in the business and youth sports communities and to bringing a successful and fun team to the fans of Yuma."
