Jorge Corrales Back to FC Tulsa for 2022 Season
December 14, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa will have a familiar face on the backline in 2022 with the return of defender Jorge Corrales in 2022, pending league and federation approval. This will be Corrales' third season in Tulsa with the club having made the USL Championship Playoffs in each of his previous two seasons (2017, 2021).
"Jorge Corrales was an important piece for us attacking and defending," said FC Tulsa head coach Michael Nsien. "His experience will be valuable for us coming into the new season."
Corrales was an integral piece in FC Tulsa's back four in 2021 with 26 appearances in 33 FC Tulsa matches. He led the team in interceptions and placed in the top five on the team in tackles won and blocks. He finished the 2021 season with three assists from his left back spot and currently ranks sixth in franchise history in total minutes played.
His assists in 2021 were particularly timely as each assist gave FC Tulsa the lead in a match it went on to win. In his professional career, Corrales has had a knack for chipping in on the offensive end, with a goal and eight assists.
"I'm really happy and looking forward to the 2022 season in Tulsa and continuing to play good soccer," said Corrales. "We have a team of really good players and friends, all working towards one goal - to get to Finals and fight for a title. I appreciate the opportunity to stay in Tulsa and push this club to new heights."
The majority of his missed matches last season came when Corrales was called into the Cuban national team for 2022 World Cup qualifying. He made four starts for Cuba in 2021, playing every minute for the "Leones del Caribe" during qualifying. In a 5-0 win over the British Virgin Islands, Corrales secured his first international assist. In his career, Corrales has made 38 appearances for the Cuban national team.
Corrales is the third player and first defender announced to FC Tulsa's 2022 roster, joining midfielder Eric Bird and keeper Sean Lewis.
