Jordan Davis Ninth 'Runner to Make College Plans

The Topeka RoadRunners are pleased to announce that Jordan Davis has committed to play his collegiate hockey for the University of Manitoba Bisons of Canada West, the Canadian equivalent of Division I hockey in the United States. Davis, 21, will begin his college career this fall.
In his final season of juniors, he found his way to Topeka by way of family friend and RoadRunner assistant coach Harry Mahood. "I will always be grateful to Coach Mahood for a lot of reasons, and introducing me to Topeka is one of the best", Davis said. After a solid regular season that saw him post 48 points, he exploded in the postseason with 14 points and a pair of game winning goals. His teammates voted him the recipient of the teams annual "John Stoddard Heart Award", and the NAHL recognized him by naming him to the 2011 Robertson Cup All-Tournament team.
Growing up in a hockey family gave Jordan, as the middle of three brothers plenty of support. "I was playing hockey by age 4, and skating at 3", Davis recalled. "I always knew I had my parents and brothers to go to for help if I needed it, and that was a great feeling." Making the adjustment to Topeka wasn't difficult for the Devlin, Ontario native. "My teammates, the coaches and the fans made it a pretty easy transition." Then, flashing his trademark grin, added, "Plus, Topeka's a lot warmer than what I was used to so I had NO trouble getting used to THAT!"
In the Fall of 2011 he begins his studies at the University of Manitoba. "I've heard a lot of good things about the school and after I enjoy the summer, I'm excited to get started there." He plans on studying business and aspires to someday run his own golf course. The Manitoba Bisons hockey team plays in the Canada West Conference, where they've been since 1920.
Even as his attentions turn toward a future in Manitoba, the influence of his time in Topeka is something he values. Asked of his fondest memory, he smiles. "Definitely it was sweeping Amarillo in their barn to clinch the South Division Regular Season title. That was awesome!" He also was quick to acknowledge those who made his time as a RoadRunner special. "(Owners) Don and Barbara Stone, who gave me the opportunity to come to Topeka, for that I am grateful. My coaches, Scott Langer, R.J. Enga, and Harry Mahood, who not only helped me improve my on-ice skills but helped me grow as a person. Arch Ecker, simply the best broadcaster any team could ever hope for. The Booster Club and all the fans, easily the best fans I've ever played for. And my billet family who made me feel at home all season. I could never put into words how phenomenal it's been for me."
Davis is the ninth RoadRunner this season to commit to a Division I or equivalent college. He joins Rasmus Tirronen, Brian Christie and Justin Hussar (Merrimack College), Michael Hill and Trevor Campbell (Alaska - Fairbanks), Andrew O'Leary (Army), Nate Milam (Ferris State), and Jacob Poe (Connecticut).
