Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA - With training camp set to open in three weeks, Fury FC GM and Head Coach Paul Dalglish continues to build his squad for the 2017 USL season that is set to begin on March 24. On Thursday, the club announced the signing of former Ottawa Fury PDL midfielder Jonathan Barden, pending league and federation approval, bringing the roster size to 16.
Barden spent the last two seasons playing in the Icelandic Premier League with the IBV Vestmannaeyjar, featuring in 38 games.
"Jonathan is a high-energy box to box midfield player that is the perfect player profile for our counter-pressing style," said Dalglish. "He is another player that plays with a lot of heart and I am sure that he will be an entertaining player to watch for our supporters."
Barden is no stranger to the Nation's Capital or the Fury organization as the 24-year-old played for the Ottawa Fury PDL team in 2013 where he featured alongside Carl Haworth. Barden will also be reunited with Sito Seoane who he played both with and against during his two years in Iceland.
Prior to making his professional debut in 2015, the London, England native played in the NCAA at James Madison University for four years where he started 65 of 66 games. During his time at JMU, Barden earned selection to the All-Conference rookie team and the All-Conference team, while also being listed on Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Freshmen and Top 20 players in the conference.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to come and play for Ottawa," said Barden. "It really seems like a club that is going places with a top manager, a great group of players and excellent fans. It's an opportunity that I couldn't pass up and I'm looking forward to helping the team reach its massive potential."
