March 9, 2005 - The Johnstown Riverhawks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League announced today that Brent Spruill of Pittsburgh, PA has been named as their official Penn/Ohio scout.
Spruill, a defensive specialist and a Pittsburgh native has an extensive career in both college and professional football - including brief stints in the Arena Football League and the National Football League.
In 1990, Spruill played for the Sacramento Outlaws in the Minor League Football System. In 1991 he joined the Sacramento Surge of the World League and was invited to join the Detroit Drive of the Arena Football League where he played four games under Head Coach Tim Marcum.
In 1993 Spruill was invited to tryout with the Houston Oilers of the National Football League and missed making the team by a narrow margin during the teams combine. In 1994 Spruill was signed by the Hong Kong Dolphins of the United Football League where he spent two seasons as starting outside linebacker.
From 1996 to 1997 Spruill joined the then American Football Conference champion New England Patriot's practice squad where injuries prevented him from obtaining a permanent position. "Brent is exactly what we need," stated Brian Schwelling the Riverhawks owner, "he has the knowledge and experience to bring quality players from the area to our team."
Spruill's responsibilities will encompass the scouting of all potential players from NCAA Division I through Division III colleges, NFL, CFL and semi-pro leagues in Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio.
