Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - The JetHawks may wish that they played all of their games in San Bernardino. Lancaster rallied with two runs in the eighth inning to force extra innings, then scored in the 12th as they defeated Inland Empire 5-4. The JetHawks sweep the series, their third sweep against the 66ers in 2010. They end up winning eight of the nine games between the teams at Arrowhead Credit Union Park this season.

The starting pitchers were strong early. There were no runs until the third inning when David Flores started the frame with a single. He was bunted to second then scored on a RBI double by Jonathan Villar. Villar stole third base then scored on a RBI infield single by Brandon Barnes that put the JetHawks up 2-0.

Patrick Urckfitz pitched well for Lancaster, allowing just one run over the first five innings. However, a throwing error led to three 66ers runs in the sixth inning as the JetHawks fell behind 4-2.

John Curtis began his late-inning heroics in the eighth. Walks to Barnes and Brian Pellegrini, as well as a wild pitch, put runners at second and third with two outs. Curtis lined the first pitch he saw into left field to bring home both runners and tie the game.

It stayed tied until the 12th inning. Mark Ori doubled with one out, setting up another chance for Curtis to play hero. He sent a single to right field and Ori dove across the plate for the winning run.

David Berner earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, although the 66ers did load the bases with one out in the 12th. Berner struck out the final two batters of the game to close the win.

Kyle Godfrey hurled three scoreless innings of relief and matched a career-high with six strikeouts. Lee Cruz singled in the second inning to extend his hit streak to 19 games. That is the longest active streak in the California League.

The JetHawks open a three-game series in Lake Elsinore Friday night. Leandro Cespedes (2-4) will pitch for Lancaster against the Storm's Nick Schmidt (6-8). The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. The Pre-Game Show begins at 7:00.
