John Barlow Named Sports Hitting Coach

Former Assistant Baseball Coach at Vanderbilt University, John Barlowe has been named as the hitting coach for the Shreveport Sports in the Central Baseball League.

Barlowe will be the hitting coach, work with the infielders and outfielders, the same duties he held with Vanderbilt.

At Vanderbilt, Barlowe was also the third base coach and directed the team's strength and conditioning program since 1996.

"John (Barlowe) is a solid baseball guy that will work hard with our younger players and I am very happy to have him join me on the staff with the Sports," said manager Terry Bevington.

Before joining the Commodores, Barlowe was the head coach at Truett-McConnell Junior College in Cleveland, Georgia where he compiled a 127-82 record in four years.

Prior to his stint at Truett-McConnell, Barlowe served as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern University from 1989-1991, helping guide the Eagles to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska in 1990.

Barlowe also has managed seven seasons in the prestigious Cape Cod summer baseball league, known for its use of wooden bats. While in the summer league he coached 94 players that eventually signed pro contracts.

Barlowe is a native of Lenoir, North Carolina played his college baseball at Appalachian State where he was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection and in 1982 was drafted by the Seattle Mariners.
